The Fiorino Effect

A local tourism initiative gives American visitors a break.

The promotional campaign The Fiorino Effect provides American tourists visiting Florence from May 15, 2008 to December 31, 2008 with discounts at participating hotels, restaurants, theatres and exhibitions. The promotion aims at softening the impact that the current dollar-euro exchange rate has on American purchasing power when visiting Italy and Florence.

To whom does the initiative apply?
All citizens of the U.S.A. that will visit Florence and the Province from May 15 – December 31, 2008.

What is the initiative?

A special treatment reserved for American visitors. Just download the voucher, with the image of the Florin on it, or ask the staff at the information office (Via Cavour 1r) for one and bring it with you during your stay in Florence. Either one of the participating hotels or the information office can validate the voucher enabling you to access the following discounts:

10% discount - on the entire cost of your stay in participating hotels. When you reserve your hotel room/s, do not forget to communicate to the hotel staff that you are American and that you wish to use the promotion The Fiorino Effect. 

10% discount – on meals in participating restaurants (see list on the website www.firenzeturismo.it or ask for a printed list at the information office at Via Cavour 1r)

20% discount – on the exhibits scheduled for the 2008 season in the Palazzo Strozzi: from July 11 you can visit the exhibition Painting Light, The hidden techniques of the Impressionists, 60 masterpieces from the  Wallraf (Köln) and from international museums, offering a vast panorama of the techniques used by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. 

20% discount –on the entrance to a very important exhibition
Fattori and the Naturalism in Tuscany (until June 22, 2008), the first of a series of events scheduled to celebrate the most famous of the Macchiaioli painters, Giovanni Fattori, the painter of the epic deeds of the Risorgimento and of views of the Maremma. – Villa Bardini, Costa San Giorgio, 2. Exhibition hours: every day 9 a.m.-10 p.m.

15% discount – on the performances held in the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and for the lyric performances, Renconditarmonia, that are scheduled for October 2008.  The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is the oldest music festival in Italy. The programme for the season features Carmen by Bizet, Fedra by Hans Werner Henze and Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mzensk. Concerts will be conducted by Mehta, Muti, Ozawa, Chailly and Conlon. The discount is applied to tickets bought directly at the ticket office of the Theater in Corso Italia, 16 (open Tuesday through Friday 10-16.30, Saturday 10-13).

ree entrance – to the Palazzo Medici Riccardi (Via Cavour 1), the first Renaissance building to be erected in Florence. The most important section of the palace is still the small Chapel frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli with the Adoration of the Magi. The Palazzo Medici Riccardi is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed on Wednesday.
