Live music festival held at FLOG Oct 3rd - Nov 2nd
The 33rd annual Musica dei Popoli is themed Donne In Canto – Women In Song and is dedicated to the female voice with its power to evoke, to communicate and to stir emotion. For 2008 the Artistic Director, ethnomusicologist Leonardo D’Amico, has gathered some of the finest female voices from ‘world music’. They are singers of extraordinary talent, both established and emerging on the ethnic music landscape. As usual the festival is organised and promoted by F.L.O.G (which, by the way, stands for Fondazione Lavoratori Officine Galileo) in Florence and is backed by the Ministero per I Beni e le Attivitá Culturali, by the Regione Toscana, the Provinicia di Firenze and the Commune di Firenze. There is also sponsorship from the Ministero degli Affari Culturali This year’s programme lasts from October 3rd to November 2nd, with performances on fridays, saturdays and Sundays and the 8 concerts includes singers from Subsaharan Africa, Central Asia, South America and the European Mediterranean.
