Living room concerts catch on in Florence.
Yeah yeah, you probabaly already read about it in the Florentine, but honestly where else do you think we research our articles from? The idea is simple, pure and ever-so slightly pretentious - bands perform intimate gigs in people's houses. The venue is kept a secret and those who are on the list are informed via a text message at the last mintue - guests bring teacakes and whisper loudly about how they are glad that no-one invited the riff-raff, while nice musicians strum delicately on their acoustic guitars. It is a concept that has proven very popular in the UK and the US - presumably because leaving the residential areas of London on the weekend is perceived as something of a masochistic, even dangerous endeavour for anyone not looking for a kebab-related brawl. Claiming credit for it here are Claudio Ripoli and Paola Lafelice. Personally I prefer a gig where I can dance, shout and spill my beer without having to apologise to the hosts. For others though, I concede that this is an ideal setting for appreciating live music. For more information, visit the website.
