Situated on the Lungarno, just off the Ponte Santa Trinita, the British Institute's lending library is a haven. It offers refuge for those who still treasure those moments of thoughtful quiet, polite chats and the soothing company of books.

There are over 50,000 volumes available for lending and reference. Alongside this there is a reading corner with English papers and magazines, multimedia facilities and an impressive archive.

I personally like the library because the atmoshpere is instantly calming, the armchairs call out for you to sit and read for a while and upon leaving I am always moved to sigh as the rest of the city seems so...rough.
