if you don't want to spend a lot of money on fabrics, just go to the San Lorenzo market and buy a cheap dress/skirt or whatever, cut it up and use that as material

If you need something special, there is also the world famous "Casa Dei Tessuti" on via dei Pecori, between Repubblica and the Duomo. Its a bit of an odd place, but they seem to stock everything imaginable
