If you want to get a pas-as-you-go SIM that you can top up at any Tabbachaio, you will need to present a photo ID and your Codice Fiscale. Several places will rent you a SIM along with a phone if you are only here for a short amount of time.

Depending on the network you choose (Vodafone, TIM, WIND, etc), you may have problems getting reception in certain parts of the city. Its worth checking with a housemate or colleague to see what kind of signal they get in places where you will spend a lot of time.

For information about obtaining a Codice Fiscale, see the post in the moflo Work | Study | Live Forum.
